Premium Business Card Printing in Delhi NCR: Spot UV, Gold Foil, Embossing & Velvet Finish

A business card is the only piece of your branding that someone holds. Everything else is looked at — a website, a hoarding, an Instagram grid — but a card gets picked up, turned over, and slipped into a wallet. That one second of physical contact is why a well-made card still outperforms a QR code sticker, and why the finish matters as much as the layout.

Here is what the premium finishes actually are, in plain language, so you can ask for the right one instead of just saying "make it look expensive".

Spot UV: shine exactly where you want it

Spot UV is a clear, glossy coating applied to selected areas of the card rather than the whole surface. Print the card on matte laminate, then drop spot UV on the logo, a monogram, or a pattern, and the contrast between velvet-flat and wet-gloss does the work. Under a light the coated area catches the eye first, which is exactly why we use it on logos and names rather than on body text.

It works best when there is restraint. A card with spot UV on everything is just a glossy card. A card with spot UV on 15% of the surface reads as designed. Raised spot UV — a thicker build-up you can feel with a fingernail — is a step up again and is popular with interior designers and luxury retail.

Gold and silver foil: real metal, not printed yellow

Foil stamping presses a thin metallic film onto the card using a heated die, so the result genuinely reflects light. Printed gold ink looks mustard; foil looks like metal. Gold, silver, rose gold, copper and holographic foils are all available, and foil on a dark uncoated board — deep navy, charcoal, black — is the single most reliable way to make a card feel premium.

Two practical points. Foil needs a die, so there is a one-time die cost that makes very small quantities inefficient; 500 cards upward is where it starts making sense. And fine hairline strokes below about 0.4 pt can fill in or break, so if your logo has very thin lines we will suggest a slightly weighted version for the foil layer only.

Embossing and debossing: the finish you feel

Embossing raises an element above the card surface; debossing presses it in. Neither adds colour, which is why blind emboss — no ink, no foil, just relief — looks so confident on a plain white or ecru board. Combine emboss with foil and you get the classic law-firm and jeweller card: a raised, gleaming monogram on an otherwise quiet layout.

Embossing needs board with enough thickness to hold the shape. Below about 300 gsm the relief flattens out and shows through on the reverse in a way that looks like a mistake rather than a choice.

Velvet (soft-touch) lamination: the one people notice

Velvet lamination, also called soft-touch or suede, gives the card a peach-skin surface. Clients who cannot describe any other finish will describe this one, because the difference registers through the fingers before the eyes. It also deepens dark colours — a black velvet card looks richer than a black matte card — and it hides fingerprints better than gloss.

One caveat we always mention: velvet lamination scuffs if you fold or crease it, and you cannot write on it with a ballpoint. If your team writes appointment dates on the back, leave an uncoated patch or choose matte instead.

Paper weight and stock: where most cards go wrong

• 300 gsm — the standard economy card. Fine, but it bends in a wallet.
• 350–400 gsm art card — our default for most Delhi NCR clients; holds shape, takes lamination well.
• 600 gsm duplex (two sheets pasted) — the thick, snap-when-flexed card, with an optional coloured core edge.
• Uncoated / textured boards — ideal for blind emboss and letterpress-style work; ink sits softer.
• Black core / coloured core — a visible dark line on the card edge, high impact for very little extra cost.

Painted or foiled edges are the finishing touch: the four cut edges of a thick card get a colour applied, so the card reads as a solid object. On a 600 gsm duplex card with a brand-colour edge, you rarely need any other embellishment.

What a premium card costs in Delhi NCR

Pricing is driven by three things: quantity, board weight, and the number of processes. A 350 gsm matte-laminated card in 1,000 quantity is the cheapest sensible option. Add spot UV and the cost rises modestly. Add foil and you add a die charge. Add emboss and you add a second die and a second pass on the machine. Velvet lamination is a small premium over matte. Because each process is a separate pass, two finishes cost less than four — which is another argument for restraint.

Realistically, most clients who come to us for a "premium card" end up on 400 gsm with velvet lamination and gold foil on the logo, in 500 or 1,000 quantity. It photographs well, survives a wallet, and does not require a design explanation.

Design rules that hold up in print

• Keep 3 mm bleed and keep all text at least 4 mm inside the trim line.
• Set type at 7 pt minimum; 8–9 pt for phone numbers people will actually dial.
• Send CMYK artwork, not RGB, or the blues will shift on press.
• Supply the logo as vector — a 72 dpi PNG cannot be foiled or spot-UV'd.
• Pick one hero element for the finish. Foil the logo or the name, not both.
• Use both sides: contact details on the front, a clean logo lockup on the back.

Why design and print under one roof matters

The commonest failure we see is a card designed by one vendor and printed by another. The spot UV file arrives as a flattened image, the foil layer is not separated, the black is set as rich black where it should be single-channel, and the printer either guesses or the client absorbs a reprint. Because we design and print in the same studio, the finish layers are prepared correctly the first time and we can put a physical proof in your hand before committing to a full run.
